Exploring Motherhood

One to One Calls

“I think motherhood has made me a feminist…”- course participant

We awaken when we become mothers. For the first time, we feel out of sync with the pace of the society, living in a parallel world of milk and sleepless nights and small feet that walk ever so slowly. We blink our eyes into a new view of work and family life, perhaps juggling childcare dropoffs with early meetings, or school pick ups with phone calls. We see things that we didn’t notice before about the way the world works: who’s paid more per hour, who is expected to provide most of the childcare, which type of work is deemed ‘economically inactive’ by or government. We want to be better citizens of the world.

Every mother is a working mother, there’s no doubt about that. Our paths as mothers change as our children grow, and as our family’s economic situations change. Maybe you’re stepping away from the world of paid work to do the vital job of raising a family, and feeling the unique strain that can bring. For the first time, you might not be earning an income, and that can feel confronting. Or perhaps you’re wanting to spend more of your energy in paid work, starting a business of your own or advancing in your field, but motherhood is making that progression feel impossible.

I am now offering one to one sessions with mothers to help you unpick challenges related to daily family life and work. In our call, we can examine what’s making the day-to-day feel fraught, and I can help you find practical solutions to make your unique combination of work and family life flow more easily - regardless of whether that work is paid, unpaid, or somewhere in between.

With a background in antenatal education, crisis support, and feminist theory, I’m ready to hear your challenges and worries with an open, friendly heart. I’ll give you space to explore your thoughts around your current challenge relating to work, balance, and family life, and I’ll provide you with a balanced, evidence-based roadmap for creating a calmer family rhythm, a plan for carving out more time for yourself, or even an action plan for addressing unfair treatment at work based on motherhood discrimination. I’m not a therapist, but I can provide space for you to consider the feelings you have around your current situation and shine a light on some options for change.

Over 60 minutes, we’ll work together to consider new options and lay out a practical plan for change. During our call, we’ll decide together whether a follow-up 30 minute call, or a week of Voxer support, works best for your issue. You’ll also receive a summary of our conversation, plus links to any books, articles, podcasts, or other resources we discuss. The investment for a one to one session is £105.

I also provide one to one support to families looking for ways to increase their family’s social conscience through reading and activities - you can read more about that here.
